Successful Candidates
You will receive an email with your Certificate of Successful Completion of Exam (CSCE).
This is proof of your successful exam and is good for one year.
After exam session data is uploaded to the ARRL, processed then
uploaded to the FCC (next business day)
New Technicians will receive an email from the FCC requesting a $35 fee within 10 days.
Under 18 fee reimbursement is available from the ARRL using this form.
After you pay the fee
you will be assigned your callsign.
Callsigns are assigned alphabetical within region 6 (California),
something like KO6JFN as of May 9, 2025
This is called a 2x3 callsign. two letters before the 6, three letters after the six.
Technicians can look for and request 1x3 available callsigns from the FCC
as a vanity callsign like your initials.
If you upgrade you can get shorter callsigns.
The view from the other side of the table
is a lot of fun. Generals and Extras
can become Volunteer Examiners,
helping people get and/or upgrade
their license.
* If you are under the age of 18 the $5 is a discounted exam fee. The regular fee is $15.
* $35 must be paid to the FCC but the ARRL will reimburse this by filling out the ARRL form.
